Horticulturist in the Making

In addition to the retail therapy that I very much enjoyed today, I also like: daffodils star jasmine zinnias My dad teaches me plant stuff all the time, but lately I've been trying hard to actively learn new things. I mean, I knew daffodils and zinnias, but I've learned things like star jasmine, nandina, japanese boxwood, and arbavida. Nature is pretty much the best. [For the record, the daffodils were given to us by a friend (thanks Carpenter family!), we did not grown them. The other stuff is ours though!]

Poverty Strikes

Really UA? Really? This is unacceptable for one freaking summer school class. I hope you all rot in a fiery pit someday.     On a side note, the statement they sent me today was seriously confusing. Get your act together UA, and stop making it more difficult than it should be to give you money. But I'm not bitter...

Maturing

Do you ever say something and then think, "Whoa, that just sounded like dad/mom?" Well, I definitely did that the other day, and I was kind of proud it happened. I've got rockin' parents, if you didn't know. Now you know. :: On a different note, Nicole got married today. She looked stunning. It's sad to see her start this chapter of her life, because we're kind of on different pages now (to keep with the literary metaphor). We'll all leave each other behind to find bigger and better things in this life, and the only thing left in the end will be an empty stretch of road that we all used to travel together. We'll each replace that stretch that we once took together in favor of individual roads that lead us on to better things. We can chase our dreams a little more fervently when you have that comp...

Misconceptions

For my Editing class I had to find an article that was poorly reported. The difficult part was that you had to find an article that means something to you. A poorly reported article that rips at your heart because of the way it portrays you or something you care about? That's no fun. Naturally, religion was first to come to mind, and finding something that really misconstrued the LDS church was easier than it should have been. The article was terrible, and the stupid thing is that it wouldn't have been hard to fix and make right. It made me sad that the article had been read by an editor and deemed fit for print in one of the most read newspapers on the planet. It made me sad that in this age of technology, a quick run over Mormon.org would have shed light on a lot of these misconceptions. But, what would have happened had all of these facts been checked and corrected, is that the article wouldn't have really been about much. Her whole focus would have had to shift, in...
